Catching Up

I guess it has been awhile since my last post. I have been all about running but not about writing so here we go...

First off I ran the 25K which was a little warm to say the least. Luckily I had good company and it turned out to be the most fun I have had at a race. I had a slow time but not too bad for the conditions. I was glad to finish and still be smiling. After the race I did another 3.5 miles or so to get in my full milage for the day. Maybe next year will bring cooler weather.

Since the 25K I have been increasing my miles and have been around 70 miles per week. I think last week I was a little short on miles due to the rainy weather. I couldn't bring myself to run in the rain on Saturday. I actually woke up, got ready and made it halfway to the Kenyan Way long run but the temperature kept falling and the rain got harder so I went back to my warm bed. I completed my scheduled long run on Sunday under much more favorable circumstances. Monday I ran 8 miles easy around my neighborhood and Tuesday I ventured back to the parking garages for some hill work. I actually feel pretty good after the hill workouts now, let's just hope it will pay off on Allen Parkway in January. This weekend is another long run and then hopefully I will run Sunmart the following weekend. That's about all my running news for now. Oh, a quick note that I am now linked to the HARRA Homepage at www.harra.org. Isn't that exciting?!

Easy Day

Today I met the Clear Lake group for an easy 12 miles. I ran to the Kroger which is approximately 2.5 miles from my house and then completed 7 with the group before returning back home. I figured out this morning on the way to the workout that I am up to 60 miles a week now. I have never run that kind of milage before so this is unknown territory. So far I feel good, the only thing that seems to be getting me down is the waking up at 4 am. I guess if I'm going to keep this up I need to get to bed earlier. Tomorrow I am attempting a 5 mile tempo run which should be interesting considering my butt hurts from the garages yesterday. Well now I must get to bed.

Have a great night!

First Post & Parking Garages

This is a day of firsts for me. I have been an avid reader of several running blogs for the past year or so and have thought about starting my own from time to time. Today is a good as any to start so here I am. I am currently training for the Houston Marathon and hopefully a new PR for this distance. I have been training with several groups in the area including Bayou City Road Runners and Kenyan Way. Both are excellent groups and have really helped me stay on track toward my goal. Hopefully this blog will also keep me accountable and help me get out the door when I would rather turn off the alarm clock. So now the fun begins...

Today was my first hill workout in at least 2 months. I met the Bayou City group at the park to run parking garages. My alarm failed to go off this morning so I had exactly 5 minutes to dress and be on my way. What a great way to start the day. So for better or worse I made it to the 0 marker at the park and we were off to the garages. The worse is what I got for todays workout. I definately was not expecting this to be as difficult as it turned out to be. This was a good kick in the butt for meand I got in 10 miles for the day. I suppose I will have to put this in my weekly rotation.

Have a great night!
